  • School Meal Program

Crescent School District operates a breakfast, lunch, and after school snack program.  For the 25/26 school year, the Breakfast program and the Lunch program will operate the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). Crescent School also qualifies under Washington State HB 1238 to serve all meals to students free. Qualifying schools must continue to collect free and reduced-price meal applications, download Direct Certification lists monthly, and claim meals according to a student’s approved eligibility status. After-school snacks for our extended day program are reimbursable, and are free to the student.  Adults and visiting guests are required to pay for lunches.

Distribution of Free & Reduced Meal Applications

Even though under HB 1238 students eat for free, the district still must identify each student’s “free”, “reduced”, or “paid” status as it affects other student benefits and other district funding (for more information, contact the school business office.  Therefore, paper and online applications for free/reduced status will be highly encouraged.

ERP client alternatives to Electronic Data InterchangeIn Family Access, families may apply for free/reduced meals in lieu of a paper application.  Once the electronic application has been submitted, an electronic flag appears in the food service module to notify the Business Manager that the application is ready for processing.

Receipt of Free & Reduced Meal Applications

Paper applications normally are received in the school office by the district secretary and immediately forwarded to the Business Manager, who checks the application for completion.  If the application is not complete, contact is made to the applicant and if needed, the application is returned for completion.

    Effective Date

Once the application is deemed completed, the Business Manager date-stamps the application, and becomes the effective date of the application.  For electronic applications, the completion/submission date is the effective date.

When entered into Skyward, the effective date is entered, and automatically applies a cost adjustment back to the effective date.  Any overage charges as of the effective date are automatically refunded back to the students account.  If a cash refund is requested by the parent/guardian, a check can be issued per current district procedure.  The district will keep clear documentation of any refunds.

Notification to the Parent/Guardian of the Household

Upon determination of eligibility for free or reduced meals, a letter is generated to notify the application of the determination.  The letter may also be electronically posted to the student’s account in Family Access.

    Meal Claiming

Meals that have been claimed at the lower rate of reimbursement but are determined eligible for free or reduced meals as of the effective date, the district may claim said meals at the higher reimbursement rate, up to 60 days.

  • Free/Reduced applications from the prior year (24/25) expire on October 8, 2025. Families must re-apply for the 25/26 school year. If a new application has not been received by the office by October 8, 2025, student eligibility will be updated to paid meals starting October 14, 2025.

  • If your student is receiving benefits through SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, or other state or tribal program, you will be notified of automatic eligibility for free or reduced meals. If you believe your student should be receiving free or reduced meals based on his/her enrollment in one of these programs, but are not receiving free meals, please contact Ashley Petersen at 360.928.3311 ext 1005.
